The dimensions of a living room rug

In the classical trade, there are carpets:

  • Small size (70 x 140, 90 x 160, with a diameter of 60 or 80 cm);
  • Medium size (120 x 180, 140 x 200, 170 x 240, with a diameter of 120 cm);
  • Large size (200 x 300 with a diameter of 200 or 250 cm).

The ideal size of a carpet for a living room is defined according to the arrangement of the sofas and the coffee table. The ideal is to choose a carpet whose length is at least equal to that of the sofa. As for the width, it must allow to turn around the table while remaining on the carpet. We will opt for a carpet of 200 x 300 cm for a large living room and we will favor the round models in a small room.

What material for a living room rug?

The choice of material for a living room rug depends on its use, design and comfort sought. The choice will be mainly between natural and synthetic fibers.

  • Natural fibers

A wool carpet is resistant to wear and dirt. In addition to impeccable comfort, it offers good sound and thermal insulation. The cotton mat is appreciated for its strength, but also for its ability to absorb moisture. Silk, on the other hand, is a shiny, soft and resistant material.

  • Synthetic fibers

Viscose is a smooth, soft and shiny semi-synthetic fiber similar to silk. The resistance of the viscose carpet depends largely on the density of its pile.

Resistant to stains, the polyester mat keeps the radiance of its colors even with the passage of time. It is advisable to favor a medium height of hair to obtain a beautiful effect once the room furnished.
